\nAssembly line balancing is a classical combinatorial optimization problem. The basic formulation, known as the Simple Assembly Line Balancing Problem (SALBP), tries to assign tasks to workstations according to workload and precedence constraints under throughput maximization or resource use minimization. In this talk, we consider different versions of the SALBP with task times uncertainty, focusing on robust optimization and comparing them to alternative stochastic optimization approaches. A strong focus is given to the challenges and the applicability of the approaches to different SALBP objectives and the challenges raised to solve these problems.
